Italian viewpoint: Treno Natura, Val d’Orcia, Tuscany

If like me you love Tuscany, but want to experience it without the hordes of tourists that invade its northwestern province, head down to the south and get on board of the train called Treno Natura. This lovely steam train crossing the picturesque Val d’Orcia, captured by painters over the centuries and still captivating visitors now, will transport you back in time and take you on a very unique journey, completely immersed in nature.

What makes this rail journey special is not only the beauty of the lands crossed, but also because some vistas and perspectives can only be enjoyed aboard the train. In some stretches, there are no roads beside the rail tracks and only fields and flocks of sheep can be seen: time has really come to a stop and Treno Natura is the best way to access this awe-inspiring landscape.

Along the way, you will be able to get off at romantic stations and venture along foot trails to explore this land’s hidden treasures, like churches, towns and castles or stop off at a farm to taste authentic cuisine and also seize the opportunity to take part in local fairs and festivals.

I can’t think of a better way of exploring secret Tuscany than sitting back on this scenic railway. Every time you’ll discover something new and you’ll feel like a true time-traveller!
